Job Purpose:
Under the general guidance of the Director of Sales & Marketing, the Assistant Director of Sales & marketing will be responsible for the Sales team’s effective soliciting and handling of all Group and Transient business in line with Hotel budgets / targets. They will be responsible for managing a team of up to five direct reports in the prospecting and handling of accounts from within the local, regional and international markets. They will be responsible for prospecting and closing on assigned accounts, territories and business segments – Finance; Energy; Construction & Services - to positively impact Hotel revenues and to assuming department responsibility in the absence of the Director of Sales & Marketing.
Duties & Functions:
  • Solicit business to exceed budgeted revenue goals through telephone solicitation, e-commerce, face to face sales calls, site inspections and written communications including offer letters and rate contracts
  • Respond and track all leads through all sources; secure bid opportunities through direct contact, e-mail and telephone
  • Monitor production of all accounts and evaluate trends within the market and amongst the competitive set
  • Responsible for the annual RFP process working with the Corporate Office
  • Maintain and participate in an active sales solicitation program contacting existing accounts based on the tracing frequencies of the Account Coverage Program whilst maintaining relations with all accounts by proactive communications
  • Be responsible for familiarization trips from specialist market segments – Corporate Buyers, MICE etc
  • Assist in implementing ad hoc and tactical promotions relating to direct sales segments
  • Work with event, sales and revenue teams to ensure maximum revenue is driven during weekend periods, special occasions such as National Holidays and Festive periods – Ramadan and Eid Holidays
  • Work with catering team to develop an outdoor catering market
  • Meet or exceed personal and team sales solicitation call goals based on a minimum of 5 daily appointments per person covering existing and prospective accounts
  • Invite clients to the hotel for entertainment, lunches, tours and site inspections according to set weekly targets
  • Enter and locate work related information using sales software, computers and/or point of sale systems
  • Complete a daily / weekly log of all key activities and complete weekly reporting schedule to the Director of Sales & Marketing
  • Create and attend a trade show and industry meetings calendar, in some cases this will require travel
  • Develop a complete knowledge of company and sales policies, procedures and SOP’s, and ensure knowledge of and adherence to those policies by the sales team
  • Be able to conduct a professional and thorough site inspection of the property
  • Develop a full working knowledge of the operations of the hotel, including Events, Food and Beverage, Banqueting, Guest Services, Revenue & Reservations
  • Develop strategic marketing plans to sell assigned room segments as part of the annual Business Plan
  • Create and maintain a Transient Business database according to Morgan’s Hotel Group standards
  • Be a leader and role model to all employees
  • Support the maintenance of the Sales Departmental expense budgets
  • Attend regular meetings  – Banqueting, Sales, Marketing & Revenue
  • Recruit, direct, manage, train and counsel Business Travel Sales and administration staff
  • Oversee Sales management, coordinators and representatives in absence of the Director of Sales & Marketing
  • Responsible for interviewing and hiring support staff in conjunction with Director of Sales & Marketing
  • Create and participate in On Boarding process for new employees
  • Facilitate training needs for new hires e.g. Delphi training, site inspection best practices and standard operating procedures, etc.

Specific Job Knowledge & Skills:
  • College Degree in Business, Hospitality, or Related field preferred
  • Minimum five years’ experience in Hotel sales, preferably in an upscale or lifestyle brand hotel holding a Director of Sales position.
  • Minimum of three years’ Hotel sales experience in the Middle East region
  • Possess a gracious, friendly, and fun demeanor
  • Ability to multitask, work in a fast paced environment and have a high level attention to detail and achieve targets
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills in English. Arabic and other Languages optional but desirable
  • Maintain positive and productive working relationships with other employees and departments
  • Ability to work independently and to partner with others to promote an environment of teamwork
